We had a slimmer 2.5-inch heel about to launch, and I pointed her to the low Caged Swing instead. She wanted a heel she could trust more than she wanted height.

A wider heel puts more of you in contact with the floor, which means a bigger margin for error when you turn — your ankle isn't left doing the work of keeping you upright. It's a dance-shoe idea. Underneath it, the things that make a long night possible: a flexible sole so your foot can actually bend, real arch support, dense cushioning under the ball of the foot, and a strap that holds the shoe to you instead of letting you grip with your toes.

If you're choosing a heel for a wedding, that's the trade worth understanding. Height photographs. Stability is what you feel at hour six.

Not a One-Night Shoe

The other thing Hannah was clear about:

I just want to be able to wear them more after the wedding too.

Which is a fair thing to ask, and one most wedding shoes quietly fail. The Caged Swing isn't a bridal-only silhouette — it reads as a vintage sandal on a low heel, so it goes to dinner, to a party, to a dance class, in a way a satin stiletto dyed to match a colour scheme never will.
